final fantasy 4 advance

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

yay! now a trip down memory lane where i can return to my roots and talk about ff4. this page was originally a final fantasy fan page so like, yeah. it’s all good and stuff. i’m very pleased with the new ff4 port, just like i was pleased with ff1&2:dos. it’s great and this game rocks. also, tellah still says this:

so you know it’s gotta be good. go out and buy it now. if you don’t, i don’t know what to tell you, but you’re missing out. now i’m going back to playing this fine game.

my wonderful new controller

Sunday, November 6th, 2005

i haven’t owned a controller for my pc since way back when i got a cheap knockoff mad catz version of the gravis gamepad which was in a snes controller shell. ah those were the days. i used to use that thing to play nesticle all the time. anyway, i wanted a controller, but a decent one costs like $40. even the cheapest logitech pads i could find were like $30 and they looks like crap. so then i found out about xbox controllers just being usb and you can hack them up. so i found a cheap used knockoff mad catz version of the xbox controller s for $10, took a usb cable lying around my house, and started cutting. but then i couldn’t find any electrical tape and i realized i had no soldering iron. so 5 mins of twisting and duct tape later i have a controller that works anwyay. it’s not too bad, except that i really don’t like the xbox controller all that much, but it works better than my keyboard. my favorite part of it is how half the wire is black, then there’d duct tape, and the other half is white. that’s a quality job right there!

final fantasy 4

Sunday, September 18th, 2005

i know this news is really old, but ff4 is coming to gba in december and i couldn’t be more excited. if they edit out the famous “you spoony bard!” i’ll be pretty upset, but i think this is very unlikely since nintendo of america is doing the translation and they left in “i garland will knock you all down!”. either way, i’m really excited about this as the game is pretty much my favorite final fantasy as far as story and music goes. oh yeah…

controller controller revolution

Friday, September 16th, 2005

oh yeah, i gotta give myself points for the original post title! anyway, um, this is what i think about the revolution controller. i’m not sure what to think yet. i’d be lyoing if i didn’t say i was skeptical, but at the same time i’ve supported nintendo for a long time, and they just recently took something that sounded stupid with the ds and made it work really really well, so who knows, right? basically, if you really think about it it looks like a combination nes controller/zapper/power glove tilted on it’s side with an expansion port. will it work? i guess we’ll find out.

lufia 2 sucks

Wednesday, September 7th, 2005

i have hated lufia 2 since the day it was released. it’s a terrible game and i hate it. the only people who like this game are people who enjoy looking at strange round heads. that’s not right, not right at all. lufia 2 sucks! i did a search on google for “lufia 2 sucks” and didn’t get any hits, well this is going to change all that soon enough! remember kids, lufia 2 sucks!

just to prove that no job is ever really finished, i updated my heracles 2 patch today.

it’s a pretty minor bugfix, but it also makes one of the more annoying parts of the start of the game more playable (as it was originally meant to be).

gotta catch em all

Tuesday, February 1st, 2005

so i’ve owned pokemon gold since christmas of 2000 when i got it as a gift. i played it then for an hour or two and it kind of fell to the bottom of my “games that you play once and forget about” pile. i picked it up once or twice since then, forgot where i was and turned it off. anyway, i started a new game on it yesterday and it’s actually pretty fun, i’ve racked up about 9 hours on it at work over the past 2 days so far. so yeah, that’s pretty fun. i have infinitely more important things to worry about in my life, but i figured that this was the best thing to blog about. until next time, keep fit and have fun!

fanatical gamers of the 90s

Monday, November 8th, 2004

pretend it’s 1992 and you’re 11 years old. now pretend you’re a hardcore nintendo fan with a nes, a snes, and two gameboys. now pretend you’re watching the disney afternoon. suddenly you’re madder than anything, so mad you just have to go complain to your mom about how stupid it is and how they’re making things up and how it’s not true. you start frothing at the mouth and raging like a democrat when george bush got re-elected. what makes you do this? sega commercials! especially the one with that stupid racecar and the crummy old icecream truck with mariokart straped to the back of it, or the one where the dog is sniffing the game boy and the game gear. that kind of stuff scars you for life as a kid. one thing’s for sure, it made me never want to buy a sega system for as long as i live. i had someone offer me a genesis for $5 once and i turned them down because i don’t want that trash in my house. you know it’s bad when 10 years later sega announces they’re leaving the console race and becoming a developer and inside you start laughing like a retarded clown thinking “muahahahahaha! up yours sega!” there’s one thing about that old sega advertising though, it sure was memorable. i can hardly remember any nintendo commercials from that period. anything between “now you’re playing with power” and “play it loud!” is like a blur. there’s only one problem with a memorable commercial though, when it’s so in-your-face and irritating that it rallies people to the competition. i mean sure sega had mortal kombat with blood in it, but there really wasn’t a whole lot else. take away that and sonic and you’ve hardly got anything. i remember seeing chuchu rocket as a gba launch title and telling people “SEGA’S MAKING GAMEBOY GAMES NOW IMAGINE THAT 10 YEARS AGO BAHAHAHAHAHA!” most of the time they’d give me a polite nod and walk slowly across the road, but still, my point came across. anyway, that’s my nostalgia rant for the day, just wanted to share.

the hori digital controller and why i’m not buying anything from the console corner again

Wednesday, September 1st, 2004

so i’ve wanted a hori digital controller for a while… they look pretty nice, and the snes controller is easily my favorite controller ever… so one day i up and decide i’m gonna search around for the best deal i can find on one and order it. so eventually i find this place where they’re being sold for $15… i figure that looks like a decent price so i order one, wait a few weeks, and eventually it comes. only it’s not a hori controller, it’s a pelican retro pad. not only is it not what i ordered, but it’s loose and everything. so i’m not very impressed with this. the controller feels cheap and crappy, and from all reviews i’ve read on the hori one it feels like an official nintendo product. also it’s like twice as thick as a snes controller, and i’m just not all that pleased. so i email them back and they tell me to send it back and they’ll send me out the right controller. so i mail it back, wait another 3 weeks or so, and then i get a slip in the mail that i have to pay $8 at the post office to pick up a parcel. i haven’t ordered anything else, so i assume it’s the controller. the weird thing is, i never had to pay customs the first time. anyway when i pick it up the customs form says i paid $18 for it… so i check their website wheni get home and sure enough they have the hori controller marked up to $18, and the pelican one is now listed (i don’t remember seeing it before) right beside it for $13. anyway, it’s nearly 2 months later so i’m just gonna let it all slide now, it just sucks that after mailing the thing back and paying customs fees and all i end up waiting like 2 months and paying an extra $14 or so more than i had planned on. luckily, the controller is pretty much everything i expected. i might even pick up a second one, but it definitely won’t be from the console corner.
